Maintaining brain health as we age
With our longer life expectancy there is an increased interest in helping maintain our brain health as we age.
This week, Swinburne is hosting the Brain Health and Natural Medicine Conference which will bring together experts to present recent research on the effects of natural medicines and nutritional supplements on health, brain function and clinical mental health.

The future of Australia's metals industry
The minerals research community will discuss the future of the Australian metallurgical industry at Swinburne this week.
The annual High Temperature Processing Symposium brings together researchers from steel, aluminium and non-ferrous metals industry to share developments and results from the latest research.
Discussions will include the impact of a high Australian dollar on our struggling steel industry, how changes to Rio Tinto and Alcoa corporate structures affect our large aluminium industry, the likely impact carbon tax will have on these industries and what research developments could shape the future of these important industries for our country. Volunteer to participate in research
Swinburne’s centre for Human Psychopharmacology (CHP) is looking for volunteers to participate in a study investigating the effectiveness of herbal extract Bacopa Monniera (KeenMind) on cognitive function and brain activity.
You will be eligible to participate in the study if you:
- are aged between 40-45
- are a non-smoker
- have no history of anxiety, depression or psychiatric disorders
- are not taking any medication (prescription or over the counter), herbal extracts, vitamin supplements or illicit drugs
Participation involves five testing sessions. The first session will be held at Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus and the following four sessions will be held at the Brain Research Institute at the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg.

Orientation Week
New students will be welcomed to Swinburne this February for semester one orientation. Orientation provides new students with the opportunity to meet academic and administrative staff and learn more about their course and study expectations.
Students will also receive information about the services available to assist them with their studies, tour the campus and take part in the fun, festivities and freebies.
