Higher Ground News: issue eight

This issue of Higher Ground News includes an update on the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre Central Assessment project. It also covers the Faculty of Life and Social Sciences’ partnership with Channel 31 and the new Industry Engaged Learning database.

Applications are now open for the Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching program. This program is designed for all academic staff to gain more knowledge, share ideas and to reflect on and develop their own practice. It also provides an opportunity for staff to build their learning and teaching portfolio for promotion or teaching applications.

You can choose to complete the first unit, or four units for the whole Graduate Certificate.

Virtual predictions beat destruction

'Virtual manufacturing’ at the Swinburne-based Australian Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre is attracting the attention of major industrial companies looking for solutions to complex technical issues.

Headed by Professor Jeong Yoon, the Swinburne virtual manufacturing team offers Australian manufacturers access to cutting-edge engineering and technology capabilities.

Companies using the skills of Jeong include Boeing – where the focus is on composite materials such as those used in the 787 Dreamliner ordered by Qantas – and aviation suppliers such as Sandvik Australia and Lovitt Technologies.
