Swinburne Chancellor to lead B-HERT
Swinburne Chancellor Bill Scales has been elected President of the Business/Higher Education Round Table (B-HERT).

Acknowledged as one of Australia's most influential public policy reformers, Mr Scales has held a range of senior executive positions and has been involved with many boards and committees over the past forty years.

Mr Scales said he was looking forward to supporting B-HERT's role in promoting collaboration in Australia as the major contributor to a knowledge-based economy and an innovative leader among nations.

"One of the plans for the coming year is for B-HERT to start to benchmark the extent of collaboration among our members - to identify where it is happening and where it can be improved," Mr Scales said.

"We will also be looking at how B-HERT can support higher education in its collaborative efforts as well as support business in effective engagements.

"All of this will support government in its policy initiatives and programs."

B-HERT is a not-for-profit organisation that was established in 1990 to strengthen the relationship between business and higher education.

Its members are leaders in higher education, business, industry bodies and research institutions.

Mr Scales joined the B-HERT Board in 2012 and was elected President at the 2012 Annual General Meeting on Thursday 8 November for a two year term.

Swinburne University of Technology has been a long term member of B-HERT.
