Date posted: Friday 7 Oct 2011

Swinburne University of Technology has bolstered its reputation for teaching and research excellence, having been named one of the world’s top 400 universities by the Times Higher Education University World Rankings 2011-2012.

The university is now ranked in all three major international university ranking systems, having been included in the top 500 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2011, the top 450 in the QS World University Rankings 2011 and now the top 400 in the Times.

With an estimated 15,000 universities internationally, this puts Swinburne in the top three per cent of universities in the world.

The Times result adds to recent accolades that the university has received:

According to Vice-Chancellor Professor Linda Kristjanson, the Times rating further consolidates Swinburne’s international reputation for both research excellence and quality education.

“Achieving a place in the three major ranking systems is no small feat, and it reflects Swinburne’s high quality teaching and the significant research progress we have made in recent years,” she said.

The Times Higher Education rankings employ 13 separate performance indicators designed to capture a range of university activities including the learning environment, research reputation and influence, industry income and international outlook.

The complete rankings and detailed methodology can be found at the Times Higher Education World University Rankings website.
