Date posted: Tuesday 28 Sep 2010

Captain Cameron Tribe has been announced as the new Chair of the Swinburne Aviation Industry Advisory Committee.

He was recently elected to the position following the retirement of former Chair, Captain Mark Krieger.

As Senior Training Captain (B737 Fleet) with The Virgin Blue Group of Airlines, Captain Tribe has significant experience in aviation management. He has previously held managerial flight operations positions at Virgin, including as a Senior Line Operations Manager.

According to Swinburne Aviation Discipline Leader Mr Stephen Fankhauser, Captain Tribe’s election as Chair is a significant milestone for the Swinburne Aviation Program.

“Cameron was part of the inaugural intake of Swinburne’s Bachelor of Technology (Aviation), graduating in 1994,” he said.

“His elevation to this position is a reflection of the mature state of aviation tertiary studies worldwide, as graduates are now assuming senior operational and management roles in industry.”

The role of the Swinburne Aviation Industry Advisory Committee is to ensure the university’s aviation programs are industry relevant and to provide a forum for industry to influence and direct program content.

The committee provides advice and recommendations to the university during accreditation of new programs and reaccreditation of existing programs.

Members are drawn from senior positions within industry, both Australia and abroad, with a committed interest in the development of aviation educational and training programs.

The committee has representation from industry leaders including Virgin Blue, Air Services Australia, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, Cathay Pacific, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Jetstar, Melbourne Airport, QANTAS and Shell Aviation.
