Sustainability at work forum

Date posted: Tuesday 27 Jul 2010

A seminar exploring the links between industry and education for sustainability has been organised by Swinburne University and the Business and Higher Education Round Table (BHERT).

The forum will examine the role of education in embedding sustainability into mainstream education, business and community practice.

Speakers will include Chair of the Monash Sustainability Institute and former Deputy Premier, Professor John Thwaites, and Director of the Institute of Sustainable Solutions at the University of Sydney, Sam Mostyn.

"The move towards sustainability is growing across the world," said Dr Garry McDonald, director of the National Centre for Sustainability at Swinburne. "With increasing government regulation and stakeholder expectations, businesses and communities will need to adopt more sustainable practices.

"The education sector has a critical role to play in establishing sustainability in business and the wider community.

"This forum will showcase current best practice examples of what is happening in education and how it impacts on business and community sustainability, and will foreshadow future innovative developments."

BHERT is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1990 to strengthen the relationship between business and higher education. Its members are leaders in higher education, business, industry bodies and research institutions.
