Unveiling the Universe

Date posted: Wednesday 17 Mar 2010

The role of hydrogen gas in the formation of stars and galaxies will be explored at Swinburne University’s public astronomy lecture.

Dr Virginia Kilborn, a researcher at Swinburne’s Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing, will present Unveiling the Universe in Hydrogen at Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus on Friday 19 March.

The seminar will tell how observations of hydrogen gas in nearby galaxies allow researchers to determine the dynamics and evolution of these systems.

“There are several new telescopes being built in the next decade that will revolutionise this field of research. I will outline Australia's involvement in these observatories, in particular the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder, and the Square Kilometre Array,” Kilborn said.

Unveiling the Universe in Hydrogen is a free presentation, but seats are limited. Book your place by contacting Liz Thackray at ethackray@swin.edu.au by Wednesday 17 March.
