Swinburne on a path of growth
Date posted: Tuesday 19 Jan 2010
Today over 3100 Australian students received a first round offer to study at Swinburne University of Technology in 2010.
With demand for Swinburne degrees growing, a record number of students are expected to enrol at the university this year.
According to Swinburne’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Shirley Leitch, this growth demonstrates the university’s expanding reputation as a provider of quality, career-oriented education.
“Students are recognising Swinburne’s excellence in both teaching and research – also reflected in the Good Universities Guide that ranks Swinburne as the best university in Melbourne for teaching quality and graduate satisfaction.”
According to Leitch, over the last few years Swinburne has grown not only in reputation, but also in size.
“As a relatively young higher education institution we have expanded considerably in recent years, and we intend to continue this growth.
“We have invested heavily in our staff and infrastructure, which will allow us to accommodate increases in both student numbers and research activities.”
Leitch said that Swinburne’s vision for growth fitted in with the Federal Government’s plan to gradually remove caps on the number of Commonwealth-Supported Places universities can offer.
“As shown by data released by the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre yesterday, our ENTERs remain similar to last year. Given we over-enrolled by almost 15 per cent, there is a significant increase in demand for our courses.
“As a young, innovative institution in the Higher Education space we are undoubtedly on a trajectory of growth.”
