Swinburne TAFE has been recognised as the best in the country, winning 'Large Training Provider of the Year' at the Australian Training Awards.
Held in Canberra last night, the awards are the peak national awards for vocational training and excellence. They recognise innovation and quality in the training sector across Australia.
This is the first time a dual sector university, which offers both TAFE and Higher Education, has taken out the large training provider category.
"This is significant because it is recognition of our intersectoral advantage, which offers real benefits to students, industry and the wider community," Deputy Vice-Chancellor (TAFE) Linda Brown said.
According to Brown, winning the award was a really significant moment in Swinburne's 100 year history.
'This is the first time Swinburne has entered the category of Large Training Provider and we are extremely proud to have won. This achievement recognises the commitment and passion of the whole 'Team Swinburne' which includes our community, industry and government partners, our staff, students and alumni.
'Vocational Education and Training has been recognised as the engine of the Australian economy and Swinburne is uniquely placed to maximise the nexus between Australia's research capability, future skills, sustainability and social inclusion.
Swinburne TAFE has almost 40,000 students enrolled in accredited VET and short courses at its Croydon, Hawthorn, Lilydale, Prahran and Wantirna campuses.
The success in the national awards follows on from Swinburne's sweep of the Victorian Training Awards held in August. At the state-based awards ceremony, Swinburne won the Large Training Provider of the Year, Training Initiative of the Year and Victorian Trainee of the Year.
