European Union awards Swinburne

The European Union (EU) has awarded Swinburne University of Technology the Jean Monnet Teaching Award to help to improve understanding of the EU in Australia.

The funding associated with the award will allow Swinburne’s Faculty of Business and Enterprise to develop and deliver subjects that will improve students’ awareness and understanding of the role of Europe, the European Union and European integration.

According to Dr Bruno Mascitelli, Associate Dean for the Faculty, Swinburne has over a number of years developed a strong stream of subjects around European studies.

“Our sound reputation for delivering European studies has been recognised by the European Union through this award. We are now in a position to build on our current programs and improve the understanding of the EU and Europe among our students,” he said.

Swinburne currently offers a range of subjects in Italian language, European business and European culture.

The funding and award are delivered through the European Union’s Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). The award is named after historical figure Jean Monnet, who many consider a chief architect of European unity.
