Swinburne staff honoured by ALTC

Seven Swinburne staff members have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to student learning with a 2010 Australian Learning and Teaching Council citation.

The citations, valued at $10,000 each, will be awarded to 170 individuals and 23 teams of academic and professional staff across Australia who have demonstrated sustained dedication to improving the quality of the student learning experience.

Swinburne's recipients are:

Dr Benedict (Ben) Williams, for sustained development of innovative and integrated learning activities and assessments that enhance student engagement and learning.

Dr Carolyn Beasley, for outstanding achievement in inspiring incarcerated students with limited educational backgrounds to achieve academic success in postgraduate education.

Dr Antonio Lobo, for developing and implementing ‘real world' industry client-based projects which produce significant improvements in student learning through active engagement in undergraduate marketing education.

Ms Julie De Rooy, for excellence in teaching law, including engaging multidisciplinary and culturally diverse students, using targeted real world scenarios, extensive feedback and transition workshops.

Dr Dominique Hecq, for excellence in postgraduate teaching by developing and implementing highly personalised learning practices which enhance student creativity, performance, well-being, social inclusion and recognition beyond academe.

Ms Nicki Wragg, for teaching excellence in the development of a research/practice paradigm that establishes Swinburne honours graduates as leaders in their field and as potential design researchers.

Dr Catherine Lang, for sustained leadership in building a Women in ICT community providing student leadership opportunities, engaging with diverse groups and creating successful academic and social experiences.

They will receive their awards at the Melbourne citation ceremony, held at 4pm on Thursday 5 August at the National Gallery of Victoria.
