Governance
Swinburne has an obligation to its staff, students and the community to practice good governance.
Chancellery is home to a number of key governance bodies.
Council is the University’s governing body. Its primary responsibility is to manage the affairs of the University.
The Chancellor Mr Bill Scales AO is the Chair of the Council.
Strategic Planning & Quality (SPQ)
SPQ is responsible for the delivery of quality management planning and reporting across the TAFE, Higher Education and Corporate sectors.
SPQ is also responsible for preparing the University’s plans and reports for key stakeholders such as the Federal and State Governments.
The Finance Department works to maintain the University’s financial integrity and accountability.
It is responsible for Swinburne’s finances, including central accounts, auditing, taxation, financial reporting, and the University’s budget.
The Governance and Policy Unit manages University policy, procedures, statutes and regulations.
The University’s boards and committees and the Electoral Office also fall under this Unit.
Swinburne Legal provides a full range of legal services and advice to the University.
They cannot offer advice to students or to staff members where it relates to personal matters.
The Audit Unit provides appraisals and impartial advice on the efficiency of management practices and controls.
It also conducts departmental audits and assists departments to streamline work processes and comply with Swinburne policy.
Risk management is a process that helps staff identify and address specific risks related to their particular unit or area, and the University.
These risks might include service delivery, insurance-related risks, regulatory compliance and change management.
Swinburne has a central compliance program that ensures we meet current Australian Standards.
It is also based on meeting our core values, and corporate governance, ethical and community standards.
