Mr Stephen Connelly

Mr Connelly was appointed to the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development and Engagement) in June 2008 and heads the International and Development division of the University. Prior to this he held the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor (International and Development). He joined Swinburne in November 2004.

The International & Development division comprises: the Office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor (International & Recruitment), including Swinburne International and National Recruitment, International Partnerships & Quality and Centre for Global Programs; Swinburne College; Marketing Services; Commercial Services; Swinburne Industry Solutions; and Alumni and Development.

Prior to joining Swinburne, Mr Connelly spent seven years at La Trobe University as Director of International Marketing and then Director of the International Programs Office. During his tenure at La Trobe, he was also Chair of the Victorian International Directors Committee from 2000 to 2002, and foundation Chair of the Australian Universities International Directors Forum from 2002 to 2004. He is currently President of the International Education Association Australia (IEAA).

Mr Connelly graduated with a BA (Hons) in German Literature, MA in 18th century European Studies and Dip Ed in ESL and German from Monash University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies from the Melbourne Business School. He has lived and worked overseas in Germany and Malaysia, and has almost twenty years experience in international education. His work history includes stints in language centres at Monash and RMIT Universities as well as private providers, and four-years in Kuala Lumpur as Academic Director of RMIT Programs at Metropolitan College, a private college offering Australian, British and American degree programs.
