Pro Vice-Chancellor (Sarawak) Professor Helmut Lueckenhausen, PhD, FDIA, FRSA

Professor Lueckenhausen has been acting PVC and CE of Swinburne Sarawak since August 2006 and was appointed to the position in his own right in January 2007. Consequently he has stepped down as Dean of the Faculty of Design, Chair of Academic Board, member of Council and member of the Board of the National Institute for Circus Arts. However, he continues his activity in the design discipline on behalf of Swinburne through his representation at CUMULUS, previously the European and now the International organization for Schools of Art and Design. Professor Lueckenhausen’s international track record includes setting up programs in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and from 2007, Singapore. He will also continue leading his project in the CRC for Wood Innovations, Innovative Technologies in the Design and Manufacture of High Value Furniture and Wood Products from Microwave-modified Wood. Professor Lueckenhausen is a leading exponent in the field of studio furniture, having maintained a regular national and international lecture program, including forum, conference and workshop presentations. His work has been exhibited in the United States, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Germany, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Iran, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Spain and he is represented in the permanent collections of the Australian National Gallery as well as public galleries and museums in six states and territories. He has been the Secretary of the World Craft Council (a UNESCO funded NGO), undertaking a series of cultural relations visits and projects funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, including Government to Government cultural missions, and has served on many national and international boards and committees, including the International Craft Design Association, the Design Institute of Australia, Craft Australia, and committees of the Australia Council.
