Senior Executive Profiles

Mr Barry Telford joined Swinburne University of Technology in August 1999 in the position of Chief Financial Officer.  He is responsible for the total finance function, with particular emphasis on managerial finance and budgeting, financial analysis and advice for executive decision making, the day-to-day financial/accounting system and its support, external reporting, taxation, insurance, investments and University procurement.

Mr Telford’s interests also include (i) encouraging external relationships to advance the objectives of the University and (ii) the development of the senior financial officer’s role within the Higher Education Sector.  He has chaired the Victorian and Tasmanian Universities Senior Finance Officers Group for a number of years.

Prior to joining Swinburne University of Technology, Mr Telford was the Manager of Budget and Planning at The University of Melbourne where he gained extensive experience in university financial management, particularly in relation to budgeting and investments.

Mr Telford attained a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Melbourne and a Master of Business Administration from Deakin University where he was a recipient of a Wilfred Brooks Medal (awarded to each of the two outstanding graduates of the course year).  He is a Certified Practicing Accountant and an Associate of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
