University Governance - Academic Approval Track

Academic Board and Board of Technical Studies

Proposals for new University-wide academic policies are prepared by the Registrar, in consultation with the academic bodies, divisions and schools. Drafts are send for approval to the relevant Divisional Deputy Vice-Chancellor[s], assisted by their advisory committees, and to the Academic Board or Board of Technical Studies.

Concept proposals for the development of new courses are sent through the Faculty Dean or School Director or Head of the Academic Unit to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the relevant Division. They are then referred to the Executive Group (see Senior Management page) for consideration of their strategic and resource implications. Concept proposals for intersectoral courses are also referred to the Intersectoral Advisory Committee.

Developed proposals for Higher Education programs are submitted in the first instance to a Course Advisory Committee. If endorsed by the external members of the Course Advisory Committee they are then forwarded to the Faculty Academic Committee, the Deputy Deans Committee, the Divisional Accreditation Group and thence to the to the Academic Board (via its Executive Committee) Studies for final approval.

Developed proposals for TAFE programs to be accredited internally follow a similar path and are submitted to the Board of TAFE Studies for final approval.

Once courses have been accredited, they are listed on Regulation 13 program list and reviewed on a regular basis through the Course Performance System (Higher Education) or Course Maintenance System (TAFE).

Detailed policies for the accreditation and reaccredidation of courses are in the Policies and Procedures Database.

Further details of the accreditation and re-accreditation of programs can be found on the Academic Board and Board of TAFE Studies web pages.
