Sustainability at Croydon Campus
As part of our commitment to sustainability, Swinburne are always looking for ways to reduce the energy and water consumed and waste produced by our campus facilities. We’ve already made some great progress in this area at Croydon. Just some of our achievements to date include:
- Croydon campus features a new Green Trades Complex to meet the needs of growing needs for green skills in the plumbing, manufacturing and construction industries.
- Installed water saving urinals, waterless urinals and dual flush toilets in most buildings
- Water harvesting using rainwater storage tanks
- Decommissioned all mains water irrigation systems.
- Installed T5 lighting and lighting control systems (sensors & timers)
- Upgraded the Building Management System
- Installed window tinting to reduce heat transfer
- Installed push button timers for Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems
- Have a Green Office program operating on-site for staff
- Installed bike storage facilities
- Installed co-mingled waste recycling bins
- Planted drought tolerant pants
- Installed low flow showerheads and tap faucets
- Encourage the use of video conferencing facilities to reduce transport
- Swinburne staff car fleet limited to 4 cylinder, Hybrid and gas powered 6 cylinder choices
- Total recycling of fluorescent tubes
- Reducing unnecessary purchasing and packaging
