Cross Institutional Studies
Closing dates:
Semester One - 4 weeks prior to subject commencement
Semester Two - 4 weeks prior to subject commencement
Business and Language Subjects
The Faculty of Business and Enterprise offers cross-institutional
study in Business and Arts related subjects at the
undergraduate and postgraduate level. Cross Institutional
subjects are taken outside the student's normal course.
Students are not enrolled in a Swinburne undergraduate
or postgraduate program and receive no award at the
completion of study. Students do receive, however,
a statement of results for the completed institutional
subject or subjects.
Cross-institutional Study
Students currently enrolled at another university may
apply to study single subjects on a cross-institutional
study basis (TAFE students are not eligible). Applicants
must complete the application form that requires approval
of the home institution. HECS-Help (where applicable)
is processed at Swinburne University of Technology
in the normal manner. A HECS-Help Assistance Form (where
applicable) must be completed when applying.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for first year subjects
but prerequisites must be met for second and third
year subjects.
Applicants must show evidence of meeting pre-requisites
on the application form (by providing a certified copy
of a Statement of Results).
Subjects Available
Students can select from a wide range of business and
language subjects offered by the Faculty of Business
and Enterprise. A summary of subjects offered for
the forthcoming semester is available by accessing
the
Faculty
timetable. Specific subject details are in
the Swinburne
University of Technology handbook. The handbook can
be viewed at SUT library or purchased from the SUT

Application and Availability of Places
Enrolment is determined on a semester to semester basis
and no guarantee of subsequent enrolment can be made.
Availability of places in classes for cross-institutional
study applicants will be determined after degree program
students have enrolled. Applications will be processed
and advice of enrolment will be sent to successful
applicants prior to the start of semester. Applicants
who are unsuccessful in gaining a place in a subject
will be advised as such by letter.
Fees for Cross-institutional Study
Contact the Faculty for further details on 9214 5554.
Payment
Once an application is processed, an advice of
enrolment will be sent to the applicant along
with a direct deposit
account for payment of the fee by cash/cheque/credit
card at a Westpac Bank branch, or Swinburne's
Cashier, or online via SwinLink within
seven days. Payment of the fee confirms a student’s
enrolment in a subject. The student is then entitled
to apply for a student card and access student facilities.
Refund Policy
Cross-Institutional Study: Students will only be eligible for a refund of fees
if they withdraw from a subject before the census
date.
Note: If a cross-institutional student is paying single-subject
fees, the 'Single Subject Enrolment Refund Policy'
will apply. Swinburne's full policy on Refund of Tuition and
General Services Fees can be found at Student Information and Services web page under 'Refunds'.
