Over the last twenty five years Peter Harkness has taught many types of economics at two Australian universities. This has included microeconomics, macroeconomics, advanced macro, environmental economics, political economy, social economics, urban economics, comparative economic systems, industrial relations, international business & trade, social theory, financial and monetary economics. Peter’s interests are primarily in political and social economics, and economics curriculum.
Peter has practical experience as an economist in both micro and macro economics, having worked for several years in the Fiscal Policy Branch (under Bernie Fraser) of the Commonwealth Treasury, and for a short time at the ACCC; and also as Chief Economist at the Rural Water Commission. For several years he represented the consumers’ interest on the Footwear Industry Advisory Council; and was a Director of a large Victorian credit union.
He has done some consulting for the retail industry and
the environmental movement. Peter has been involved in the
trade union movement for over 20 years.
