I've been a practising chartered accountant and part-time academic for over 30 years. In the past six years I have been involved with two major universities on a full-time basis, including Swinburne University for the past 3 years.

Nick is a senior academic in the Department of Accounting, Law and Economics at Swinburne University of Technology. He has over 28 years of professional experience in Australia and abroad encompassing a variety of technical disciplines, including auditing, financial accounting, finance and education. Prior to joining Swinburne University of Technology, Nick was a lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Monash University , and a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the Deakin Business School . Nick has also held senior positions in professional practice, including the position of Technical Director (Audit and Accounting) for a major Chartered Accounting firm for period of 15 years. His client base included banks, non-financial institutions, governments, educational bodies and a range of medium to large companies in the private sector.

Nick's other prior appointments have included auditing and professional consultancies in government and private practice. Previous academic postings have included positions of Lecturer and Head of Business Studies, in a major regional college and several part-time appointments lecturing in MBA and Masters Programs (RMIT and Monash University ). Nick is extensively involved with the accounting professional bodies and is a member of various technical committees for CPA Australia and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia . He is also a contributor to the National Accountant, a professional technical journal published by the National Institute of Accountants. He has been a regular speaker for these bodies and in addition has presented at numerous academic conferences providing both an academic and practitioner perspective. He has published several books in Accounting and Corporate Law and his current teaching portfolio includes, Accounting Theory, Financial Statement Analysis, Financial Reporting, Corporate Governance, and Business Valuations.

Nick also regularly presents courses in Accounting (For Managers), Financial Analysis, and Practical Business Valuations to non-accounting professionals including lawyers, doctors and engineers. His research interests are in financial accounting, business valuations, initial public offerings and family business.
