1. Enterprise Performance & Efficiency

Professor Russell Kenley

This theme is strongly influenced by the research program of the Centre for Enterprise Performance (CEP), a Swinburne University Tier 2 research centre. The CEP aims to conduct thought leadership and research to enhance effectiveness, efficiency and risk management within enterprises, using measurement and management systems. Management of intellectual capital and promoting sustainable performance are other key themes. Other research examines sustainability and innovation in construction management, public sector management and service industry quality. This program is funded by ARC and industry partner grants.The Sustainable Built Environment program of research is a lead program within the QUT research centre of the same name. It is undertaking a range of SBEnrc and ARC projects in this area.

2. Workforce Ageing & Diversity Management

This theme is influenced but not restricted to the research program of the Business, Work and Ageing Centre, which is a Swinburne University Tier 2 research centre. The BWA centre examines the implications of workforce ageing and changing population demographics for workforce participation, organizational policies and the aged care sector. Gender and ageing is another specific focus. This program is funded by ARC and industry partner grants. Other research focuses on the utilization of skilled immigrant workers and work/family conflict for immigrants, race and culture at work and a wider range of diversity management issues in organizations and the labour market. Talent management focuses on identifying the key people to develop to address future organisational needs arising at any given point in time.

3. Social Entrepreneurship & Philanthropy

The Asia Pacific Centre for Social Investment and Philanthropy (APCSIIP) is a faculty centre focusing on teaching, engagement and research around social investment and philanthropy.
Affiliated to the national Centre for Social Impact, the ACSIIIP is developing a growing reputation for research around philanthropy, social impact and social entrepreneurship.

4. Language & Cultural Research

Research in this area is interdisciplinary and led by academics whose expertise spans applied linguistics, education studies, entrepreneurship, international studies, international politics and international business. Research projects have ranged from studies on migrant workers and migrant political organizations, to the voting rights of diasporas and identify formation among migrant minorities.

Studies investigating the application and efficacy of innovative teaching and learning strategies span the full range of disciplines in the faculty and engage most academic staff. Accounting education and management education are two foci of such research.

Sports marketing is a new theme in the faculty with a strong set of academic and industry outcomes.  This combines with research on a range of social marketing issues, such as health promotion and corporate social responsibility, through to brand equity and minority group marketing.

Research in this area is marked by its interdisciplinary and epistemological diversity that covers a range of themes and issues from the classic Human Resources Management functions to organization studies. The academics and researchers working in this area have an established national and international reputation in their areas of expertise. Our aim is to conduct research to enhance the ability of businesses to respond to current issues of innovation and modernization related to a reorganization of work and workplace relations, leadership and organisational change, corruption and cross cultural management, ethical issues and sustainability (also climate change), diversity and cross cultural management, bullying and international people management. We assist business in formulating strategic ideas and plans, in expanding the ethical perspectives of their activities and increasing their sustainable effects on people and communities. We influence debates and academic collaborations through our publications.
