Message from the Director
Welcome to the Centre for Centre for Enterprise Performance. Our activities are guided by our mission to produce thought leadership and research that influences policy and practice for enhanced enterprise performance. We produce high-quality research outputs that advance knowledge and improve the practices and performance of our partner organisations. We also provide research training for doctoral candidates that often involves working with real organisations in the field. We look forward to collaborating with you.

The Centre for Enterprise Performance pursues the following objectives:
1. Deliver thought-leadership and research of relevance to industry relating to the theme of Enterprise Performance
2. Generate diversified funding and in-kind support for research programs
3. Produce high-quality academic research outputs
4. Provide research training leading to on-time degree completions
5. Develop productive international collaborations and profile
What does the centre do?
Overview
The Centre for Enterprise Performance (CEP) conducts research and provides services that help organisations to improve their effectiveness, efficiency and risk management capability. Its research programs are built on this foundation and comprise an independence of perspective, latest management thinking and cutting-edge and rigorous research and analytical techniques. Its research programs also provide an opportunity for research higher degree students to pursue and complete their doctoral studies using field-based research techniques to solve important organisational problems.
The Centre's research is often published in leading international academic journals. Recent and current partners to its research projects include leading Australian companies, Commonwealth and State Government agencies, and not-for-profit organisations. In addition, the Centre has won prestigious research grants from the Australian government for its research projects.
For industry & government
A guiding ethos for the Centre is that performance measurement discipline and evidenced-based approaches to decision-making can enhance enterprise performance. Its research programs have this essential ingredient to it. The Centre partners with organisations seeking to improve their effectiveness in delivering economic, public, environmental and social value, become more efficient and increase their ability to manage risk.
Recent and current partners include leading Australian companies, Commonwealth and State Government agencies, and not-for-profit organisations. To date, the Centre has generated over $1.4 million in research funding from the Australian Research Council, industry partners and grants, and has provided significant value to each of its research partner organisations. Its partners comprise enterprises across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors of the economy.
Industry Involvement
Organisations work with us in:
Effectiveness, Efficiency and Risk Management research to:
- Identify and manage the drivers of organisational effectiveness, efficiency and risk
- Design and implement business performance systems comprising both leading and lagging indicators of economic value
- Identify how risk measurement and management might be improved
Intellectual Capital and Sustainability research to:
- Identify intellectual capital components in the organisation and how these interact to enable capability and value creation
- Measure and report key intangibles and intellectual capital to external stakeholders such as analysts
- Evaluate the readiness of management information systems to drive and assess environmental value creation
- Implement management systems to drive 'triple bottom-line' business performance
Value for Money and Accountability in Government research to:
- Evaluate program effectiveness and the creation of public and social value across the public sectors
Innovation and Internationalisation research to:
- Implement management techniques that foster innovation and flexibility both within organisations and in collaborative knowledge networks
- Learn how to increase their returns from innovation and internationalisation efforts

Research
The Centre for Enterprise Performance operates four research programs. These are:
- Research Program 1: Effectiveness, efficiency and risk management - examines how organisations should design and use measurement and management systems to improve their levels of efficiency, effectiveness and risk.
- Research Program 2: Intellectual Capital and Sustainability - investigates how organisations should measure, manage and report their intellectual capital and sustainability performance.
- Research Program 3: Value for Money and Accountability in Government - examines how Australian government agencies can better utilise evidence-based approaches to evaluate and achieve value-for-money, and policy outcomes and discharge their public accountabilities.
- Research Program 4: Innovation and Internationalisation - investigates how Australian firms can develop, manage and control their innovation and internationalisation processes to enhance their growth and economic value.

Education
Centre staff are actively involved in research supervision at all levels. Within CEP candidates pursuing research higher degrees have the opportunity to work with academic experts in their various fields. Existing doctoral candidates have the benefit of working on real organisational problems, they engage with leading industry practitioners and they work in areas considered to be on the cutting-edge of business research.
In addition, Centre staff participate in teaching programs across the Faculty of Business and Enterprise. These programs include the Bachelor of Business, Masters of Accounting and Masters of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
