Swinburne Philanthropy Alumni (SPA)
Who Are We?
The friendships and respect developed during courses run by Asia-Pacific Centre for Social Investment and Philanthropy (APCSIP) led to the formation of an alumni group. The Swinburne Philanthropy Alumni (SPA) is past and present students of APCSIP with a desire to make a real contribution to the broaded community for many years to come.
SPA Trust
In November 2005 SPA members established the SPA Trust, a sub-fund located within the Greater Melbourne Foundation. The Trust is administered by the Lord Mayors Charitable Fund, Melbourne, Victoria.
With a goal to raise $10,000 over five years the fund has now reached nearly $50,000 - alumni putting their money where their mouths are!
This investment (generated in 2008) was then used to provide 'capacity building' training for staff of four not-for-profit organisations. SPA will be distributing funds for 2008-2009 shortly.
The purpose of the sub-fund is to reflect the practice of philanthropy amongst the SPA:
- Create a giving group
- Comply with legal requirements
- Raise funds
- Discuss and deliver grants in the most effective way possible
