Scholarships

The Faculty of Business and Enterprise and the Japanese staff at Swinburne University offer 2 Swinburne Study in Japan Scholarships each year to help cover expenses to study in Japan. The scholarships are currently valued at $2,500 each. Selection criteria are based on application and scholastic record.

Association of International Education Japan (AIEJ)

AIEJ is a twelve-month scholarship to one student majoring in Japanese to study in one of the universities we have exchange agreements with. The scholarship is currently valued at approximately $14,000 (Australian Dollars). Selection criteria are based on application, scholastic record and ability to study in Japan for 12 months.

 


Education Abroad Equity Awards

Student Services will be offering a limited number of Education Abroad Awards to students with financial needs in 2003. Students must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible:

Currently receiving either Austudy, Youth Allowance, unemployment benefits or an equivalent social security benefit

OR

Taxable income in the 12 months prior to applying for the Award was less than the HECS repayment threshold.

Deadlines for applications are:

  • June 1 for exchange commencing in January - Northern Hemisphere Spring Semester 1
  • December 1 for exchange commencing June - Northern Hemißsphere Fall Semester 2.

 


Japanese Government Mombusho Scholarships (Monbukagakusho Scholarships)

The Monbukagakusho (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Government of Japan: MEXT) offers scholarships to Australian nationals who wish to study at Japanese universities under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship program.

Japanese Study Category

Eligible candidates include undergraduate students majoring in Japanese language in Australian universities at the time when they go to Japan and who are enrolled in the home institution at the time when they return to their home institutions. The scholarship is good for one year from September to October (a 12 month period). Applicants must be Australian nationals. Benefits: return airfare and allowance of 142,000YEN (approx. A $2100.00) per month. Closing date is in early April each year.

Undergraduate Category

This scholarship is for study in Japan for up to 5 years, including 1 year preliminary study of the Japanese language in order to obtain a Bachelors degree from a Japanese university. Rotary Foundation Scholarships

Ambassadorial Scholarships program

  • Purpose - to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries
  • Several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies are included in the current Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships
  • Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarship applicants - need to have completed at least one year of a university-level coursework or equivalent in the proposed language of study. Ambassadorial Scholarships must be proficient in the language of the proposed host country.
