FBE Awarded Grant by ECIU
The FBE, along with 3 of the European ECIU partners, have been successful in a bid for a 138,800 Euros grant to support student and scholar mobility to Australia . Three members of the ECIU - the University of Strathclyde , Aalborg Universitet and Technische Universitat Hamburg - are currently supported by the European Union to run a joint master level program in Global Innovation Management (GIM). The GIM will have its first intake in September 2008. GIM students will be accepted on an exchange basis, which provides an opportunity for our master level students to study at the partner ECIU institutions as exchange students. The funding will also support up to 4 ECIU scholars per year (for 2 years) to participate in a broad range of teaching and research roles in the FBE or other faculties.
Professor Saee keynote speaker at international conference in Eastern Europe
Professor John Saee, Professor of International Business, Corporate Strategy and Academic Director - Doctoral program at the Faculty of Business and Enterprise, was recently invited by Professor Givenicius (Chair of the International conference and Rector of the Vilnius Gediminus Technology University) as the distinguished keynote speaker at the 5 th International Scientific Conference held on 16-17 May, 2008 in Vilnius.> Read More
ARC Linkage Success for FBE
(Professor) Philip Taylor, Professor of Employment Policy and Director - Business, Work and Ageing Centre for Research, Associate Professor Libby Brookes and Business, Work and Ageing Centre for Research staff were delighted to be notified last Thursday that they had been awarded an Australian Research Council Linkage scheme grant of $430,000 to undertake the ‘Working Late' research project.
Welcome Dr. Suresh Cuganesan
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Suresh Cuganesan will be assuming the new role of Professor of Accounting. Suresh is coming to Swinburne from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, where he is currently Associate Dean, Research.
Suresh has worked in the areas of management consulting and institutional banking before recommencing his academic career. He currently occupies a position on CPA Australia's Business Management Centre of Excellence, and is a member of the Asian Board of the American Academy of Financial Management. Suresh's research interests are in the areas of: strategic costing; business performance and intellectual capital measurement and management; and, the design of management control systems. Suresh has published 3 books and over 50 journal articles, conference papers and book chapters. He is also on the editorial boards of a number of leading national and international academic journals.
US Student Visit - International Scholar Laureate Program
On Monday 19 May the Faculty of Business and Enterprise welcomed 80 students from universities and colleges across the USA as part of the International Scholar Laureate Program. Assoc Prof Linda Brennan welcomed the visitors to this stage of their tour in Melbourne. Current FBE students joined the guests in an interactive workshop '20 Entrepreneur Start-up Myths' conducted by Dr Alex Maritz. The workshop encompassed the themes of entrepreneurship, creative and innovative thinking. The event continued over dinner with an opportunity for all to network.
LES Foundation Graduate Student Business Plan Competition
Congratulations to EcoRegan for receiving the Global Award from the Licensing Executives Society International (LES). The team was among seven innovation-minded graduate student teams from across the globe chosen to compete in the finals of the 2008 LES Foundation Graduate Student Business Plan Competition during the LES International Conference in Chicago this week. EcoRegan team members include Khai Yip Mun, Susan Jones, Hock Khoo and Naomi Toohey (MEI students). We also would like to congratulate Seth Jones and Bruce Whan (Swinburne Knowledge).

The awards also recognise their capacity to overcome difficulties, with their own efforts or with the assistance of others, and to continue with and meet their study commitments.
