Accounting Student Profile
 Marcus
Siah - MSI Ragg Weir
Marcus completed his IBL experience as an accountant
at MSI Ragg Weir, formerly known as Ragg Weir & Co.
The firm deals with many facets of accounting, ranging
from tax advice and auditing to financial planning.
For Marcus, his IBL year was an invaluable eye-opening
experience, both professionally and personally. Marcus
believes that by participating in the IBL program he
has "gained an insight into the workings of the
accounting profession, which has helped affirm (his)
career aspirations, as well as gaining valuable work
experience at the same time".
During his IBL year, Marcus has been involved in many
of the accounting services that MSI Ragg Weir provides
for its clients. Some of his duties include:
- Managing a work experience student
- Participation
in auditing large entities
- Designing
and implementing databases, as well as database
management
- Dealing with GST related issues including
the completion of the Business Activity Statement
- Dealing directly with clients and and answering
their queries
- Completion of clients' financial accounts
- Dealing
with tax issues and completion of tax returns for
individuals, trusts, companies, superannuation
funds and partnerships.
From his broad experience in professional accounting,
Marcus realises how lucky he has been to be able
to participate in the IBL program and encourages
other
students to consider completing an IBL year, as it "...will
put you a step ahead of the rest in the field".
