Single Unit and Cross Institutional Study
What is Single Unit of Study?
A Single Unit of Study is a subject taken outside an award program. Students are not enrolled in any Swinburne undergraduate or postgraduate program and do not receive an award on the completion of study.
Single Units of Study are only offered on a full-fee paying basis.
Students who have completed Single Units of Study will receive a transcript by submitting the Application for Result Certificate form.

What is Cross Institutional Study (incoming students)?
Cross institutional enrolment is available to students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs at any university (the ‘home’ university) who may wish to enrol in unit/s of study at Swinburne (the ‘host’ university) (TAFE students are not eligible).
Applicants must complete the application form that requires approval of the home institution. HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP (where applicable) will be processed at Swinburne University of Technology in the normal manner. A HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP Assistance Form (where applicable) must be completed when applying.
Students who completed Cross Institutional units will receive a transcript by submitting the Application for Result Certificate form.

- Semester One - four (4) weeks prior to subject commencement
- Semester Two - four (4) weeks prior to subject commencement

Cross Institutional Study for outgoing Swinburne students
If you are a Swinburne student wishing to undertake single units of study at another university, you will need to submit the Cross-Institutional Study (Outgoing) application form which you can find on the Student Forms page.
Application and Availability of Places
Enrolment is determined on a semester to semester basis and no guarantee of subsequent enrolment can be made. Availability of places in classes for cross-institutional study applicants will be determined after degree program students have enrolled. Applications will be processed and advice of enrolment will be sent to successful applicants prior to the start of semester. Applicants who are unsuccessful in gaining a place in a unit of study will be advised by letter.
