Welcome from the Dean
Welcome to the Faculty of Business and Enterprise at Swinburne University of Technology.
The impact of businesses large and small can be seen and felt in all aspects of our everyday lives. High performing organisations know that to succeed in today's increasingly competitive marketplace they need to hire enterprising graduates with an excellent business and management education.
Our mission is to provide just that – to educate and develop tomorrow’s leaders, today; and to provide students with the qualifications they need for the jobs they want, today.
Our approach is to provide the unique opportunity to study in a highly focused, friendly environment with excellent levels of student support. As a student-centred faculty we provide an environment where:
- students can demonstrate their entrepreneurial talent and learn by doing as well as being taught
- staff draw on their own as well as student work experiences to inform student learning and development
- undergraduate students have the opportunity to undertake a number of opportunities for workplace-based learning within their degree and, through Swinburne’s Professional Learning Model, have flexible choices in subjects outside their main degree program
Further, faculty staff regularly work with executives from business, government and public and voluntary services to support enterprise, innovation and professional development wherever it is needed. This allows us to transfer our experiences from the real world of organisations to our taught programs and so enrich the student learning experience.
This industry engagement also facilitates the culmination of our undergraduate students’ learning experience in two capstone units, which involve students in multi-disciplinary teams solving real business problems for real businesses. As a result, our graduates are some of the most sought-after in the country - and beyond!
We offer a complete range of business and management education programs from undergraduate to postgraduate and post-experience programs, including MBAs as well as PhDs. Our dual-sector status provides students with multiple pathways into our undergraduate programs and enhances our links with industry partners.
The faculty is also building a thriving research environment where high quality, collaborative research informs business practice as well as government policy. Research is undertaken by staff, postgraduate students and through the Faculty’s research centres:
- Asia-Pacific Centre for Social Investment and Philanthropy
- Business, Work and Ageing Centre for Research
- Centre for Enterprise Performance
I hope you will find the faculty pages informative and please do not hesitate to contact me if you need more information.
