Extensive international research across 8 countries including Australia , USA and the UK , highlights that CSR attracts extensive rhetoric but little in terms of application. In fact, the in depth study strongly shows that CSR at top team and board levels is often used as a mechanism for public relations and beyond that is simply neglected.
Positioning corporate social responsibility to be more strategic requires exploration of leadership attitudes but also an examination of the reality of the competitive advantage of the organisation. Understanding how an organisation is differentiated determines how CSR is used as a strategic tool or not. With such understanding in mind, particular attention will be paid on this one day programme to exploring the role of the CSR manager and to identifying the skills required to negotiate through resistance and diversity in organisations. The ethics of the CSR manager and their skill of managing dynamic executive relationships will be a focal point of the programme. The day will conclude by identifying how CSR managers can better implement corporate responsibility initiatives in their organisation.
