As a Business graduate you will have the advantage over other students in the workplace because of Swinburnes' Capstone Projects. This final year project has been designed to prepare business graduates for the workforce.
All Swinburne Business students, across all the business disciplines, are given the chance to apply their knowledge and expertise to real Australian business challenges. You will get to work with real companies on their business problems and present business solutions.
Being a part of this specialised group, you will be given a major task to achieve over your final year. The Capstone program is undertaken over two successive semesters. In semester one, you will be focusing on developing the skills you need to be able to undertake the industry project. This involves working on hypothetical business based scenarios in which teams are called to identify the best options for problem resolution and their associated risks and, through this process, understanding the importance and positive power of good team work.
In semester two, you will come face to face with a business owner and you will get to hear about your project. At the end of semester two, you will present this idea to the business owner and your fellow Business students.
You will work in teams, with an emphasis on collaborative group work, as often in the workplace, you are working within a team.
Projects are open-structured, real world focused, and feature authentic professional activities and challenges.
Being a participant in the Capstone Projects, you will also learn and develop soft skills equipping you as a valuable asset to any employer. You will
- discover new knowledge and build a new set of skills in order to complete tasks
- develop the skills, behaviour and attitude required of a professional when dealing with difficult business decisions
- come face to face with business owners and work with your team to develop business solutions to solve their problems
- learn leadership skills; how to solve a problem as a team, and what it takes to become a successful team
