Project Working Late

The Business, Work and Ageing Centre for Research at Swinburne University of Technology has received funding from the Australian Research Council (2009-2011) to undertake the research project ‘Working Late’, which is concerned with the management of Australian labour supply against the backdrop of demographic change and the restructuring of industry.

Among the objectives of the project, the research team is investigating policy responses to issues concerning the management of labour supply in response to changing national and global economic and industry contexts.

Issues to be explored will include:

  • The behaviour of global and national employers, facing the prospect of ageing workforces and increasing global competition, with regard to managing labour supply
  • Labour supply drivers and determinants as they pertain to older people
  • The effects of economic downturns on labour market segments, including the undersupply and oversupply or labour
  • Behaviours of selected national governments concerning the maintenance of adequate labour supply and the implications for public policy in Australia
  • Comparative labour supply positioning of older people in the context of differential industry-based scenarios in the face of global competition, including migration and off-shoring

We would like to invite participants for this research project. If you are a key informant or representative of an organisation considered to have insight into these issues we would be interested in setting up a time for a confidential interview with you. The interview will take up to one hour. Please contact Associate Professor Elizabeth Brooke to nominate a time which is convenient for you.
