Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The PhD is the highest academic degree offered by the University. It is a full research degree. Each candidate undertakes an individual research project with two supervisors. Attendance at a Research Methodology course is also required for candidates who have not completed a research Masters/ honours program. A thesis of up to100,000 words which makes an original contribution to knowledge must be submitted for examination.
The PhD degree is designed to provide training and education to produce graduates with the capacity to conduct independent, advanced research. On completion, the student should be capable of conducting a complex research program without supervision. The PhD candidate should uncover new knowledge either by the discovery of new facts, the formulation of theories or the innovative re-interpretation of known data.

* Other relevant activities, including work experience, will be taken into account in assessing applications. Overseas candidates must hold a master or honours degree, deemed by NOOSR to be equivalent to an Australian master or honours degree.
** If English is not your first language, you must produce evidence of an advanced level of proficiency in written and spoken English.
