Kate Cain, Human Resources Coordinator with Accru Melbourne, has found Swinburne's placement program an excellent way to recruit high quality permanent employees.
"We find (placements) a great way to recruit high quality permanent employees, with around 80% of our students accepting permanent roles with us after their placement."
Kate Cain, Human Resources Coordinator, Accru
"Accru Melbourne has been hosting students for over 16 years. One of our Partners, Richard Addison, began with us as a Swinburne placement student in 2001 and two of our managers and several other employees were Swinburne students who stayed on with us after their placement.
We recruit students to work within the Business Advisory Services and Wealth Management areas of our business.
In Business Advisory Services they work with individual clients, small and medium-sized enterprises and some bigger corporations across a range of industries. Students are involved in preparing financial statements and tax returns and assist with tax planning, bookkeeping and much more.
Students placed in our Wealth Management area get hands-on experience preparing investment reports and financial advice documentation for individual clients, and in day to day dealings with financial institutions.
We find it a great way to recruit high quality permanent employees, with around 80 per cent of our students accepting permanent roles with us after their placement.
In 2016 all our placement students accepted permanent roles with us for 2017.
Within a supportive, fun environment, our students get fantastic, hands-on experience and they’re paired with a buddy who assists them to transition smoothly into the firm. As a medium-sized firm, we’re big enough for students to be exposed to many different clients and industries, yet small enough to offer personalised career paths and opportunities.
The students bring enthusiasm and new ideas and I would highly recommend the placement program to students and other organisations. I believe it puts the students far ahead of their peers, and for our firm it is our main way of recruiting.
We find the program highly valuable and hope we continue to work with Swinburne and their students for many years to come."
