Swinburne National Science Week Communication Prize 2017

To help celebrate National Science Week 2017, Swinburne is looking for aspiring science communicators to create an exciting, engaging and informative science video for a high school audience.

Who can enter

Swinburne students who completed the unit COM20002 Communication for Scientists in Semester 2 2016 or are completing the unit NPS20005 in Semester 1 2017 are invited to create a short video (less than 5 minutes duration) that communicates a scientific idea, concept, discovery or problem.

While optional, you are encouraged to draw inspiration from the National Science Week 2017 school theme Future Earth. Your target audience are high school students in Year 9-11.

The prize

The winning entry (first prize) will receive $350. Their video could also be hosted on the Swinburne Youtube channel and shared to a wide audience of schools. We'll also help you to prepare your video for submission to Scinema 2018, the International Science Film Festival.

The runner-up (second prize) will receive $150. Prizes will be announced during National Science Week 2017 (12 to 20 August).

How to enter

  1. Create a video under 5 minutes that meets the criteria above and those listed in the terms and conditions below
  2. Email a signed acknowledgement and consent form (below) and your video (as an attachment or via shared cloud folder link) to artembourov@swin.edu.au by 14 July 2017.
