At the Faculty of Design graduation on 17 March, Dianne Summons was awarded a PhD in Design.
Dianne comes from a business background, but followed her daughter, Natalie Ebenreuter, into the design field.
She completed an undergraduate degree in arts at Swinburne when she was aged 40, an MBA at Monash at around 50 and handed in her PhD for review just after turning 60.
"I can't imagine life without constant challenge and opportunities to acquire knowledge," she said.
“I don’t like television and rarely watch it. As my daughters were both studying I decided I may as well join them.
"My interest in design is as a lay person," Dianne said. "My father was an architect and town planner and my daughter Natalie is active in design, so I have been surrounded by design philosophies since birth."
Dianne recently resigned from her role as University Survey Manager at Bond University in Queensland to concentrate on the publication of her first book Incarceration.
“My book is a thriller. It’s the first in a series; three are written. It’s about a man who catches a plane and as a result of what happens to him during the flight is whisked away into a government facility and left to die with the other people from the flight.”
Incarceration is available on Amazon as an e-book.
