Kyle Raftery
Bachelor of Circus Arts 2005
Multi-talented circus performer Kyle Raftery spent much of his youth blowing into a trumpet, singing in musicals and attempting ill-fated backyard stunts.
Graduating from the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) with a Bachelor of Circus Arts in 2005, Kyle established himself as a versatile artist. A specialist in comedy, manipulation, unicycle and flying trapeze, Kyle has worked with such companies as Circus Oz, Legs On The Wall, Little Circus of Elsewhere, and This Side Up Acrobatics.
Passionate about using circus as a tool for positive social change, Kyle has also delivered workshops across regional NSW for the Department of Education.
Particularly rewarding was working with street kids in Singapore for Cirque Du Soleil’s Cirqu Du Monde outreach program and with homeless children in Cambodia.
Since graduating from NICA he has unicycled at major festivals across Australia, juggled and flipped aboard P&O Cruise ship Sun Princess, and skilfully fallen down at many other corporate events, nightclubs and theatres.
In 2007 Kyle created a solo children's show called Harry and Me. An hour long circus show drawing inspiration from the swinging music of Harry Connick Jr, Harry and Me has played sold out seasons at La Mama 4 Kids, the Melbourne Fringe Festival, and has just been selected for Australia's renowned children's festival Fun 4 Kids.
Kyle has just staged his brand new show Superkid – The pursuit of awesomeness at the Roola Boola Festival in Prahran. Superkid is specially designed for young audiences and features Kyle’s amazing talents.
Kyle will return to Swinburne’s Prahran campus in September to take part in the NICA Melbourne Circus Festival. Running from 26 September to 1 October the festival is a week-long celebration of NICA’s 10th anniversary.
Joining other successful NICA graduates who are involved in the festival, Kyle will perform shows for children and provide roving entertainment for festival goers.
