Why Should I Consider Studying Abroad?
As an undergraduate student, you won't only benefit personally and academically from studying abroad; you'll enhance your career prospects, as well.
Learning in another country is a chance to broaden your horizens, discover new perspectives and develop global contacts.
It's also a chance to impress prospective employers, many of whom will view overseas study as a demonstration of your maturity and ability to adapt.
International Exchange Program
The International Exchange Program allows you to take one full-time semester of study at one of Swinburne's many partner universities around the globe.
On exchange, you remain enrolled in Australia and pay your regular tuition fees at Swinburne, maintaining access to all the Swinburne support networks.
All tuition fees at the host university are waived as part of the exchange program. If you are a part-time student, a full-time semester of exchange is an opportunity to fast-track your studies and graduate sooner.
Study Tours and Short-Term Programs
Swinburne's partner universities commonly offer intensive study options and some European universities allow you to study one or two units in five- or ten-week modules. This innovative learning style allows you to maintain unbroken focus on one unit of study.
Some partner universities also offer intensive programs between their traditional semesters, during summer.
As an alternative, you have the opportunity to study Swinburne units as part of a two- to four-week overseas program.
To find out which opportunity best suits your discipline, discuss your options with your faculty and the Swinburne Abroad Office.
Scholarships
Swinburne recognises the importance of fostering and maintaining undergraduate student mobility - we endeavour to make study abroad as accessible as possible by offering a range of scholarships and travel grants.
Check with your faculty and the Swinburne Abroad Office to find out which you are eligible to apply for.
SwinMates
Swinburne's mentoring program is known as SwinMates - it matches students from the Hawthorn, Prahran and Lilydale campuses with visiting exchange and Study Abroad students.
As a mentor, you will not only be helping an international student to adapt more easily to their new environment, you'll also be developing intercultural communication skills and worldwide contacts.
Overseas Work Experience
What better way to put your academic knowledge into practice while gaining an international perspective on your chosen industry than by undertaking work experience overseas?
It's an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone...
...and into an experience that can lead to the sort of international contacts and career opportunities many graduates only dream of.
