Alan Schwartz AM is a successful entrepreneur and investor across industries as diverse as publishing, manufacturing, professional services, finance and software. His involvement in the not-for-profit sector includes Volunteering Victoria, Philanthropy Australia and Jewish Care.
His past ventures include Australian Seminar Services, Centre for Professional Development (CPD), Mahlab Group, BHL Systems and Anstat Group.
Currently, Alan is the Managing Director of Trawalla Group. He is co-founder of the property investment bank Qualitas Property Partners. He is a director of mortgage protection specialists ALI Group, glass fabrication firm Australian Glass Group, and transportation company BagTrans Pty Ltd. Alan is founder and Chairman of native flora marketers, the Austem Group.
Over the years Alan has enjoyed the complex satisfaction of contributing to the not-for profit sector. He has held a number of senior board positions with organisations such as Volunteering Victoria (Treasurer) and Philanthropy Australia (Treasurer). He contributed to the creation of Jewish Care, a merger of Jewish Community Services and Montefiore Homes, and was appointed its inaugural President. Alan was the founder of SEAL Force, a social venture which developed the technical and interpersonal skills of corporate executives by challenging them with not- for-profit projects.
Alan and his wife Carol Schwartz established the Trawalla Foundation in 2006 – a Prescribed Private Fund that “invests” in the arts, ideas and innovation.
Alan graduated as a Williamson Fellow in 1995. In recognition of his contribution to community and business, Alan was awarded a Centenary Medal in 2003, followed by an Order of Australia (AM) in 2007.
Alan graduated from Monash University with degrees in Economics and Law (Honours) and during his first year at Monash co-authored a best-selling economics textbook, The Australian Economy.
Alan is currently completing the Owner/President Management Program at Harvard Business School.
