New beginnings: Katia’s life in Australia as a client support officer
“I was a student in Brazil and decided to change my career from telecommunications,” says Katia. She confesses that she had no information about Australia when she made the decision to leave Brazil for Melbourne.
That was 11 years ago. She arrived in Australia in April 2003, starting her Australian life as an international student at Swinburne University. “I spent almost eight months [learning] English at the College.”
Five years ago Katia was offered a role working with the Swinburne International team. She uses her own experiences as international student to help new international students studying at Swinburne. Three years ago Katia was promoted to Client Support Officer.
“If it wasn’t for that one decision,” says Katia. “My whole life in Australia wouldn’t have been possible.”
